Cultural Activities In and Around Taos... Taos Culture

There are over 100 art galleries and at least 6 museums (including the University of New Mexico Harwood Museum). The Millicent Rogers Museum has an excellent collection of Spanish art. The new Van Vechten-Lineberry Museum is an wonderful place to view the historical art of Taos.

There are nine bookstores in Taos (and many writers). The new library has computers with internet connections for patrons.

Community theater is popular with sellout productions of revivals and contemporary productions.

The Taos Film Festival has won international acclaim for its innovative programming and for the companion sidebar event, an educational media literacy project. Look for this annual event in April.

Music lovers can enjoy local classical and chamber groups or travel down to Santa Fe for the renowned Santa Fe Opera. Jazz is popular two evenings a week at the Taos Inn. Country western dancing to live bands is available at the historic Sagebrush Inn. Michael Martin Murphy and Robert Mirabal are two favorite local musicians. (You may have been lucky enough to catch them together on a recent episode on PBS: Austin City Limits.)
