Recreation Taos has three fitness centers. Each has swimming pools, hot tubs and tennis courts. One even has an indoor tennis arena. The two main centers serve the north and south ends of town. There are two 18 hole golf courses in the area and one 9 hole course. Fishing is big here (especially fly fishing). There are several rivers with a short distance from Taos which offer great fishing. Guiding is available through several local fly shops. Downhill and cross country skiing is excellent, Taos Ski Valley being one of the top ski destinations in the country. Red River, Angel Fir and Sipapu also offer downhill skiing and some snowboarding. River rafting is a very popular and fun activity for the whole family during spring and summer. There are several local river guide companies which will provide a fun and exciting day on the Rio Grande. Hiking and camping are everywhere and easily accessible. Gliding and soaring are fantastic adventures that take advantage of the magnificent landscape and sunny climate.
