LOCATION: Taos is northern New Mexico. We are only one hour from Colorado! If you're coming from the Albuquerque airport, you have approximately 135 miles going due North before you find yourself in Taos. We are 70 miles from Santa Fe. (It makes a great day trip.)

POPULATION: The population within the town limits (as of 1995) is 6,213. The town limits are only about a mile from town so you can perhaps better judge the population by that of the county,which is 25,581. The density is 9.8 persons per square mile.
Taos is a multi-cultural environment with this approximate composition: 65% Hispanic; 27% Anglo; 7% Native American and 1% other.

CLIMATE: Taos is a four season climate with the following figures from the Taos Chamber of Commerce. Annual precipatation in Town of Taos: 12 inches. Sunshine: 70% of all possible hours annually. Daytime warmest months average in the 80's. Low winter temperatures average 10 degrees. The average snowfall in town is 35 inches and in the world re-knowned Taos Ski Valley, 321 inches.

Taos is an high elevation semi-arid, continental climate. Our elevation is 6,950 feet (about the same as Santa Fe). Taos Ski Valley is 9,207 feet.

County: 6.3125%
Taos County Property Tax:
One third of assessed value at $14.13 per $1000 value.
New Mexico Income Tax:
Rate is 2.3% to 8.5% depending on taxable income. First-year residents pay only on income received in New Mexico.
