A rare opportunity to steward a meaningful piece of Taos cultural and architectural history. Formerly the estate of Taos visionary Gene Sanchez — recognized for his influence across local politics, art, and architecture — this multi-residence adobe compound reflects a legacy of creativity, craftsmanship, and forward-thinking design. Set on approximately 1.5 acres within Town of Taos zoning, the property offers both historic presence and future development potential. The main residence encompasses approximately 3,700 square feet with 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms, constructed in classic Northern New Mexico adobe tradition. The home blends timeless Southwest architectural elements with comfortable living spaces designed to support both private retreat and gathering. The layout includes three ensuite bedroom spaces, creating a flexible retreat-style environment. The primary suite features a fireplace and private patio with sought-after Taos Mountain views, while an additional bedroom is supported by an adjacent private bath. Interior features include rich hardwood flooring, hand-crafted viga beam ceilings, smooth plaster walls, and generous living and dining spaces designed around natural light and indoor-outdoor connection. Large windows frame western sunsets and mountain vistas, reinforcing the home’s connection to the surrounding landscape. A partial basement is located beneath the main residence. The property includes two detached casitas. The first is an approximately 500 square foot 1 bedroom / 1 bathroom guest casita with adobe fireplace and patio access. The second structure, known as the Artist Studio, is approximately 1,000 square feet and includes 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom, and a traditional adobe kiva fireplace, positioned in a private rear setting within the compound. The property spans three legally recognized lots, offering potential options for redevelopment, expansion, or future resale configuration. The residence and casitas have experienced a period of vacancy and will benefit from updating and deferred maintenance improvements. The current price reflects consideration of condition and future improvement planning. This estate offers a rare chance to restore, reimagine, or reposition a legacy Taos property while maintaining its artistic and cultural roots.
